150 CHOIR MEMBERS SELECTED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF NEW ARCHBISHOP OF GULU

One hundred fifty Choir members from the different choir groups in Gulu Archdiocese have been selected to sing on the day of the installation of the new archbishop elect of Gulu, Most Rev Rapheal P’Mony Wokorach.
Prior to the selection, a total of 300 choir members participated in the song practice sessions which took place at St. Joseph`s Cathedral Parish Gulu and Christ the King Parish in Kitgum respectively for a period of 2 months.
The selected choir members comprise of 100 choir members from Gulu Vicariate and 50 from kitgum vicariate.
Rev. Fr. Richard Lenda Obedi, the chairperson of liturgy subcommittee for the installation of the new archbishop and also in charge of the choirs said, they chose the choirs depending on how each choir member was able to master the various selected songs.
When it comes songs composition, he revealed that, about 32 songs have been selected including 19 songs in Luo, 7 songs in English, 4 songs in Kiswahili, and 1 song in Ngakarimojong.
He asked Christians to also participate in singing during the mass for the installation, “do not keep quiet, for the songs you don’t know, when you listen to the first verse, you can join in the second verse or the chorus, you don’t just keep quiet in church as if you’re attending a funeral”. he emphasized.
Sharon Amito, a sopranist from Gulu Cathedral Choirs said, they are more than ready to sing on the day of installation of the new archbishop. “On that day, expect the best, you will enjoy because both new songs and old songs that you know are there”.
Issac Okema who sings bass said, as choirs, they have been putting all their efforts in ensuring that this event is intriguing, adding that the choir members are confident because when they were doing song practices, they put in their interest which is key to doing everything concerning choirs.
Following his appointment by His holiness Pope Francis on March 22, 2024, Most Rev. Raphael P’mony Wokrach, MCCJ, will be installed as the second Archbishop of the archdiocese of Gulu, at St Joseph’s Cathedral parish church in Gulu on Friday, July 12, 2024.
The prelate succeeds Archbishop Emeritus, Dr. John Baptist Odama who retired as the first Metropolitan Archbishop of the archdiocese of Gulu this year, where he served for 25 years.
