Suspects of 2018 Arua Municipality by election treason case are demanding for their trial by the general court martial, seven years after they were arrested on allegations of stoning the presidential motorcade.
The 32 suspects led by their leader Hon. Wadri Kassiano Ezati the former Arua municipality Member of Parliament arrested on August 13, 2018 and detained at Gulu central police station and tried before Gulu High Court on charges of treason.
Wadri and other 32 including the National Unity Platform party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine were later released on non-cash bond of 5 million for each suspect and 10 million shillings for sureties and since then the case has not been heard.
Wadri however demands for their trial before the court so that the case can be concluded.
“I carry treason charge, I am on bail I have my own personal thing which the police took I want them because they are the state, I want to be tried, if they have no interest in the case then let them go and say ahh ahh we have lost interest in this matter then the file is closed, so long as that file is open I still remain a remandee on bail, I want to be tried that is my stand,” Wadri appealed.
In a recent interview by Radio Pacis with the judiciary service commission on this case around September last year, the commission had pledged to resume the hearing of the Arua treason case in two week.
Asara Knight one of the 33 suspects of the treason case said she has no information on the resumption of the hearing of the case but demands to be tried in court.
“I have not gotten any information about the general court, we are the citizens of this country, we belong to this country and it is a multiparty system, we are not going to have anything talked about it, I’m very ready I will fear nobody, I will not even fear court because it’s my right to defend myself,” Asara disclosed.
Efforts to get commend from Uganda judiciary service on the resumption of the hearing of this case went unsuccessful as the repeated calls went unanswered to by press time.
