Madi West Nile diocese has sought to complete the registration and transfer of titles for over 210 churches across the diocese in the year 2025.
This projection comes after the diocese in this year 2024 reportedly commenced land registration for 374 churches which are currently at the inspection process by the area land communities of the various districts and city.
Rev. Dr. Christopher Yiiki Agatre the diocesan estates manager for Madi West Nile unearthed that, “this year 2024, we had an opportunity to partner with government through our provincial leadership so that land registration takes place for all our churches in the diocese of Madi West Nile, I would like to report that of the 685 churches in the diocese, 374 churches have already reached the stages of area land committee inspection and then land board’s approval, and then in 2025, we are targeting 210 churches to complete the registration process,” Rev. Christopher disclosed.
Jessica Mungulemisaaru the Madi West Nile diocesan planner, and head of house hold and community transformation revealed that over 350 million shillings has already been earmarked from local collections to aid in the church land titling process in 2025.
“We shall been able to fulfill and increase our titled land by titling over 210 this coming year because as you are all aware, there are issues of land, we hope that we shall be able to realize over 350 million shillings locally generated in addition to what we already have in 2024,” Jessica said.
With the growth in population and hard economic situations, public lands such as church lands have become targets of most people claiming the lands and encroaching on them thus increasing land cases.
Rev. Nguma Zebedee the chaplain to the bishop of Madi West Nile diocese however sanctioned encroachers against considering church lands as idle. “As far as what people call idle land is concerned, in the modern terms there’s no idle land this land is reserved so long as there’s frog in that land it is not idle but these are just reserved lands for future use and people should actually desist from calling it idle land,” Rev. Zebedee warned.
Madi West Nile diocese has a total of 685 churches of which only 374 churches are in the process of acquiring a free hold title for their land.
