Schools are called to give proper feeding to their learners to prevent cases of non-communicable diseases among the learners.
A report by the ministry of health indicates that, majority of the learners are eating non nutritious food s that increases the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes. But majority of the schools in Arua city admit that, they provide proper feeding to the learners, and this feeding also depends on the parental support.
Victor Alioni, the head teacher of Ediofe boys’ primary school says, they always do their best to feed the learners properly, but calls for the compliance of the parents in terms of payment, “We have feeding program and it`s going on well, we feed them on beans, posho, silver fish and greens, we know our body needs a lot of greens,” Alioni said
Similarly at Bishop Angelo memorial secondary school, proper feeding is also given to the students. Jackson Atiku, the head teacher of the school confirms this, “We give them the normal food that is recommended, that is posho, the best classes, beans, additional to that, we also give them greens, silver fish, and once in a while, we give them meat,” said Jackson
When learners are given full range of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, it improves their immune system. Having a healthy diet may even help prevent diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
