GIZ a Non-Governmental German organization through the Ministry of Local Government has handed over 6 vehicles to her partners in program implementations in West Nile. This comes as part of the Organisations contribution towards supporting emergency response in refugee hosting districts in the region.
The six vehicles among which were 4 hard body land cruisers and 2 double cabin pickups were being used by the organization in her activities and are handed over after closure of the organisations project as they transit to a successor program for the next three years.
Joseline Namara Kwesiga, the Head of project for support to refugees and host communities at GIZ appeals for more support to the newly created administrative units from partners.
“The reason why we are handing over this transport is to ensure sustainable service delivery on ground. We have found that there is a lot of challenge in service delivery. Most of the districts are new, some don’t even have transport within their facilities that they have. So, it is imperative that we as partners come together and support some of the initiatives. We will still continue with support because if you implement a project for 5 years, it’s not enough to do only a single support to the districts and walk away,” Namara said.

Wadri Sam Nyakua the mayor Arua city while receiving the vehicle for the city called upon other partners to look into the needs of the districts hosting refugees with such support for sustainable partnership and service delivery as some unsupported refugee hosts continue to suffocate with pressure exerted on service delivery
“We are grateful for this partnership and offer that GIZ has extended to us the Local Governments most of whom are directly hosting refugees for the case of rural districts, and urban refugees and migrants for the sake of Arua district and city. This energizes us and I think this kind of partnership should continue. Other partners or NGOs should really emulate what GIZ is doing, these Local Governments that are hosting these people are needy and in some areas when you go, you find the host communities are more miserable than the refugees,” Nyakua appealed.

According to Dr. Abbey Anyanzo Thomas the ED Palm Corps, one of the local organisations that also benefited from the donations, as local partners it’s hard for them to get such support on their own due to resource constrains yet they have a lot to offer to the community. “This support is so important because we are delivering services to the community. But, to reach the community, you need means of transport like vehicles and motorcycles which as local partners we don’t have the capacity to acquire. So, this donation means a lot to us and it will improve how we work with the community,” Anyanzo explained.
The beneficiary districts include Madi Okollo, Terego, Arua city, and Palm Corps, a local partner that received Land Cruiser vehicles while Arua and Obongi districts were given pickup double cabin vehicles
