Land related cases dominated the five days mobile handling and investigation sessions organized by the judicial service commission at mayor’s gardens in Arua City.

The exercise which started on Monday September 16, 2024, attracted clients from Westnile districts with different court cases.

Denis Mukira a legal officer who works with judicial service commission explained that most of the cases where land related. “Most of the complainants registered are land related ranging from over delaying of court processes, many judicial officers being transferred and the lawyers have been misguiding them, the second highest complains registered are related to bail, then the rest are one on one where their files are missing.”

One of the service seekers shared his reason for seeking services of the judicial services commission, “Why we have come here is because we reported a case about our garden since 2013,    we arrested these people and some charges were dropped and the issues of trespassing on our garden was not handled, so we have come because of the delayed justice.”

Another service seeker urged the public to seek rightful guidance from the right offices that will be of help to their legal issues, “What I want to tell our people is that if you have a legal issue, stay calm and patient because there are people who will help you.  Just like they have helped me so don’t tremble because I have been advised and that will be of great help.”

Jackson Dratibi the deputy mayor of Arua central division expects the services offered by judicial service commission to address the challenges they have been facing as leaders in Arua City.

“When criminals are caught in the very act of committing crime and they are brought to police with the evidence, we don’t understand how they are released and they go back to threaten us leaders they have recommended that we as leaders that we make city coordination meeting chaired by chief magistrate so that there is level of transparency in what you talk.”

Mukira however added that they are partial in bridging the gap of administering justice. “We basically look at matters that have already reached court because our mandate is court staffs, for us we are looking at indiscipline regarding court staffs those ones we have mandate over but we can give advice on where to go if your criminal matter has not been handled well.”

The Judicial Service Commission is a Constitutional body with powers to facilitate improved efficiency and effectiveness of Justice Administration in Uganda.
