MOYO: LEADERS URGE LOCALS TO EMBRACE GOV’T EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

Leaders in Moyo District have called upon the locals to strive towards socio –economic transformation at house hold levels by embracing the different government poverty alleviation programs.
The call was echoed during the commemoration of Uganda’s 62nd independence anniversary in the district held at celecelea stadium on Wednesday October 09, 2024.
Mr. Andu Richard Opeli the vice LC 5 chairperson who represented the District Chair Moyo explained that most people in the district are misusing the funds under the parish development model which is meant to bring about socio-economic transformation at household level. ‘‘there is a funny thing going on in the district, I would like to also ask where is PDM, am now hearing that people have changed this name to “Peoples Drinking Money” that’s why the impact is not seen in the communities ,others are using it for marriages,’’ he lamented.
Mr. Gore Goffin, The Resident District Commissioner says that the government has disbursed a lot of money through the parish development model to the households to improve on money economy. ‘‘Yesterday I received a very excellent report from the CAO, that this financial year that started in July, The government of Uganda already released 2.5 billion shillings to moyo district under Parish Development Model which has already been sent to the households, government is doing its part but the problem is how you can take advantage of this government programs to make your own money,” he exclaimed.
He further emphasized the need for households to focus on securing and making the future steady in the area of money economy.
Meanwhile, Aleru Tom Aza the Member of Parliament west Moyo County encouraged the residents to participate in the government programs in order to become self-reliant ‘‘As an individual, as families and households, May we please embrace all these beautiful government programs such as youth livelihood, Emyooga, PDM, GROW, and Uganda women empowerment program in order to become economically independent,’ he said.
The state minster for primary education dr Joyce moriku kaducu stated that there are a lot of dark spots in the various government programs that need to be cleansed. ‘‘When NRM government came in power in 1986, immediately the ten point program was put in place to eradicate poverty ,to bring people out of darkness ,but still we see a lot of poverty and dark sports that need to cleansed,” the minster noted .
The has had many poverty alleviation programs targeting all categories of citizens including special interest groups like women, youth, persons with disability and others.
These program include bona bagagawale, youth livelihood fund, women empowerment program, Emyooga and latest being PDM.
