Nyang Primary School in Zombo is at the verge of Closure

Nyang primary school in Zombo district struggling with inadequate facilities. The school, a government aided primary school established in the early 1980’s has since remained at primary 4 class.
Initially established as a primary 6 level school, the school had to drop to primary four in 1990, following the collapse of some of the classroom blocks which were put up at the inception of the school in the 1980s. Pasca Onziru, a teacher at the school, says that children in the school are bright and participate actively in the class, but what is lacking for them is the parental support. She says that parents have negative attitude towards their children’s education.
Christopher Opio, the deputy head teacher of the school, says that the challenges the school faces are out of their hand. “Children come and they do not have lunch at school and as such we always advise them to carry packed lunch to school which most of them cannot afford or be able to carry.”
According to the head teacher, their plea to have another structure has not been responded to since the government is interested in the numbers before they can get any classroom blocks.
Nicholas Odeba, the District Education Officer Zombo, says that the government has finally accepted to fund the construction of a new classroom at the school to push the school to primary seven level. He says that the construction will be done this financial year 2022/2023.
Currently, Nyang primary school has an enrolment of 358 pupils.
