Arua city development forum, (ACDF) leaders have cited disunity, and divisionism among the people as the greatest factor undermining the development of the region, calling for unity among the people.
With about four indigenous tribes in the region mixed with others living in the regions cosmopolitan Arua city, West Nile’s development decisions have on many occasions been compromised by tribal fights making it hard for the region to unitedly lobby for a common cause.
While speaking to the media ahead of the forum’s Annual General meeting on Friday, Caesar Draecabo Trinity the president of Arua city development pled to the people in the region to stand in unity for better development.
“The development of this region has come and we have reached where we are because we have been a people who stand by their word, there has been another cancer of split among us and that split does not have anything justifiable, we must kill this cancer if we are able to accommodate migrants why is it that we ourselves we are not able to stand united for a common cause of development?” Draecabo questioned.
Similarly Ayumani Musa Rasul the secretary Arua city development forum who heads the transport in the forum implored the people of West Nile to embrace the developments in the city as it is for the region.
“Arua city is a regional city it is not for the lugbara people, it is not for the Aringa people, not for the Kakwas, not for the Alurs, it’s for all of us so let’s be together in the development of this city as it is a regional city and we embrace it, when the city becomes too congested we ask the government to create other cities,” Ayumani appealed.
Arua city development forum was established in 2012 as Arua Municipality Development Forum AMDF, under the then Arua municipality with a mandate of overseeing the developments in the city with the leadership serving four years in office.
Judith Drate the Arua city senior community development officer and coordinator of the development forum charmed the incoming leadership of the forum to focus of addressing regional issues as the forum heads for a new leadership.
“Arua city is the regional city for West Nile, our issue in redress should be focusing on how a regional city amidst other local governments can be well situated for economic development, the leakages in relation to transportation, in relation to livelihood, urban migration and also refugee migration,” Drate tasked.
