The Member of Parliament Arua central division Jackson Atima Lee Butti has reaffirmed coming of the Vice president, Her Excellency Retired Major Jessica Alupo as the Chief Guest of the grand fundraising for the construction of Irishad Mosque in Arua City.
According to the Engineers, the construction of the mosque component has reached 20 percent completion rate after site clearance and foundation level are done. While the commercial building component has reached a 60% completion rate.
Atima who is also an organizing committee member says the fundraising drive is schedule for Saturday 26th April 2025 and encourages the populace to be in attendance as this turns to another opportunity to present other pressing issue of affecting the region to the president.
“Tomorrow we are blessed to host Her Excellency, Retired Major Jesca Alupo, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda at this fundraising event and she will be joined by the first deputy Mufti.” Atima explained.
The modern storage mosque, with commercial section is expected to cost 1.03 billion shillings and currently the construction works are at walling stage.
In February last year, His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the complex.
Atima recalls the struggles the Muslim Community have been going through in conducting their spiritual programs.
“Many times when you come to these mosques which are situated in town including Safi, Irishad and Muktar, you will find that the number of Muslim brothers and sisters who come for worship out shadows the surrounding of that area where the leadership now seeks for police permission as they pray up to road side, you will find mats, and some pieces of clothes are put on the tarmac roads for them to pray making it very risky for them and also obstructing business or they end up not praying.” The MP stretched.
Since the groundbreaking was done in 2024, construction work of the mosque has reached the slab level, which now requires 25 million Shillings.
Once completed, the ground and first floors will be used as mosque prayer halls, while office spaces will be situated in the other structures under the project.
