The management of Arua main market is concerned about accumulated rent from the vendors.
This was realized by revenue mobilization team that had come to mobilize revenue where they found that some vendors had over shs. 300,000 rent arrears.
The chairman of Arua Main Market Nelson Dada blames the central division authority for their reluctance in mobilizing the revenue in the market.
“Most of us have not paid and the money has accumulated so this accumulation I don’t know how it is going to be, I have been informing them that please let us go to the vendors and see how best we harmonize the situation they paid no attention, now that one’s rent has accumulated up to 300,000.”
Secretary of finance and administration in Arua central division Hon. Hamid Ssali accuses the sublets’ of retaining the money meant as revenue.
“The issue of sub-letting is the one killing us, the sitting vendor pays to the Sub-let but the unfortunate part of it that Sub-let does not even submit the revenue given to him, so what we do is we ask the person sitting there to pay and that’s how we normally get the money from them.”
According to the chairman Arua main market, every vendor on a stall is supposed to pay 7000 shilling monthly as rent, however this has not been the routine thus affecting revenue mobilization and collection in the main market.
