ARUA CITY BODA- BODA ASSOCIATION EMBARKS ON REGISTRATION AND VERIFICATION AMID CONCERNS

The Arua city boda- boda association is on a mission of registering and verifying the number of boda bodas and their stages in the city which is intended for creating organized boda- boda stages in the city.

The chairperson of juba boda – boda stage Rahuman Orijabo appreciates the move saying it will help in curbing boda- boda related crimes.

“And if the Boda- Boda association decides to carry out verification and put all the boda-boda at the stages, it will help to curb theft from unknown people,” Orijabo stated.

On a contrary, Fatumah Candiru Mary a female boda boda in Arua city questions the number of times a boda- boda rider is meant to register.

Candiru noted, “The period of Nguma, Nguma asked every stage to register, and they registered all the stages and we all registered, after him the new leadership of Safi .Safi Tiyo also asked all boda bodas to register, we also went and registered after him losing the elections another leadership came and also asked us to register, because we want to grow we registered, and they asked us to get our ID, how many times shall we register?  Each leader who comes wants us to register, each leader wants us to have a new ID, how many times shall we have new ID’s and how many times shall we have registered?”

In response, the secretary of the boda- boda association Thomas Adrole says the exercise is aimed at identifying the current boda- boda stages and their number which they believe has changed over time.

“Boda bodas at times come to industry today and tomorrow they leave so other stages have already disappeared, other are still existing so we want to know which stages are still existing and we want to collect this data    now so that we deal with such stage chairpersons and also we deal with such a number of boda- boda riders in Arua city, such that we can be exemplary like boda- boda riders in Kampala or Gulu.”

Statistics from the Arua city boda-boda association indicate that there are over 5064 registered bodaboda’s in the city.
