ARUA CITY MOVES TO SENSITIZE PUBLIC ABOUT CRIMEAN CONGO HAEMORRHAGIC FEVER

The health department is Arua city has zeroed down on surveillance and creating awareness about the viral diseases after one person succumbing to Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever on December 16, 2024.

The Arua City principle health officer Dr Pontius Apangu says their surveillance team is on ground monitoring and sensitising the public.

“Currently what we are doing is health education, we are doing screening, community health education as well as creating awareness on theses epidemics not only Congo Crimean but also Mpox the contact we line listed is part of the surveillance are doing to see whether they are developing any symptoms or not, but since then no one has actually reported symptoms of the condition so there is no alarm yet.”  

Centres for Disease Control and Prevention describes Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) as a viral disease that can cause severe bleeding and death. 
It's spread by the bite of an infected tick or by contact with the blood or bodily fluids of infected animals or humans. 

Crimean –Congo presents symptoms of high fever, back and joint pain, severe headache, stomach pain and vomiting red eyes and flushed face, red spots around the mouth, drowsiness, bleeding among others.

This can start two weeks after exposure to the virus.
