AVIS in partnership with the International Labour Organisation under the Rural Employment Services Project commissioned   Job centre in Arua city to bridge the unemployment gap among the youths.

The job centre will provide a walk in employment service opportunity to support skilled youths to identify their skills and be able to apply for the jobs
Jackplane Abalo Tracy the programs Coordinator at AVSI says the job centre aims at creating self-resilient youths in the country.

“The goal of this project is to reduce unemployment by creating employment opportunities for the youths, we walk the path with the youth until that youth gets decent employment either through the wage employment or we provide skills and then we provide capacity building so that they are able to go into self-employment.”

Evans Lwanga the Chief Technical Advisor Prospects Uganda representative of ILO states that the job centre is to opens job opportunities and facilitate linkages between the jobs that can exist in the labour market and those that can supply the labour to fill the job markets.

“We are addressing the gap that exists   between those who can provide the labour knowing where the labour can actually be appreciated for Arua city this again can be looked at as a big opportunity that should be taken up,  having a Job centre is opening up labour markets for the youths to access job opportunities which  are outside Arua.”

Wadri Sam Nyakua the mayor of Arua city encourages the youths to grab such opportunities that are presented to them.

“They are going to be helped on how to apply for jobs, most of the jobs are applied online and some youth do not have that skills, they are going to bring tailoring machines, there is free internet so  the youth should take on such opportunities because that is the way to go.”

The job centre in Arua city becomes the fourth in the country under the rural employment services projects aimed at reducing unemployment.
