According to the Dero Kwan coordinator at Rocco Paco, Lanyero Filda Ojok, the scholarship that has been granted to 60 beneficiaries from Kitgum Municipality in Acholi Sub region.
“From all the eight districts we have, we want seven students from each, from Gulu City, 2 students and Kitgum Municipality 2 students totaling to 60. We then started calling children for interviews which was very hard because you call a child and when you ask them, you find that the child is capable of getting school fees from the family and you have to cancel their name and go look for the one that is vulnerable,” she explained.
By the time of the launch, the shortlisted beneficiaries were 59 with 20 females and 39 males who are joining Secondary level of education.
However, there are still hopes to get one more student to make the total of 60 beneficiaries.
