A joint committee of physical planning together with the security in Terego district foiled an attempt by the community to cause havoc at Wandi Progressive Secondary School over a community access through the school compound.

For long the community neighboring the institution has been up in arms with the school authorities over an estimated 20 meters pathways that separates the classroom blocks with the girls’ dormitory as the school authorities move to merge the structures together.

According to Ramandan Angutoko a member of the feuding community says the school did not provide an alternative route to their homes yet the pathway through the compound is the only shortcut they have.

“If they don’t want people to pass here, they have to give an alternative route before they leave this road, if the school does not, they don’t want students to go to the communities, any student they see outside they will kill or else the student must first provide a title for the road he/she has used to cross to the communities.”

Wandi Progressive S.S that has an issue with the community over an
access road.

Whereas Jackson Arima the PTA Chairman of Wandi Progressive Secondary School reveals that the purported access road had become a source of insecurity to the institution.

“You can’t break a complete school into two and trespassing at night anytime by the community is an insecurity and they come even threatening the watchman at the gate, even there was a student who was knocked by a motorcycle.”

Terego district security team with great concern revealed that Katrini sub county is the leading among the seven lower local governments in terms of criminalities ranging from land related matters to defilement.

Kennedy Akena the District Police Commander Terego warns community members to desist from participating in mob actions that derail development.
“The constitution of Uganda does not accept ignorance, why must we put this institution down?”

While Rose Munduni the assistant RDC Terego directed among others the administration of Wandi Progressive SS to block the pathway through the school compound, ensure that the various structures of the school are confined by fencing for learners’ safety as the sub county provides an alternative route for the community.

“Head teacher of the school, the day an accident occurs here to a school child, we shall hold you responsible to answer murder charges. Therefore I now direct with effect from today you shall put a barrier at the entrance and this maybe a gate and this be erected within a week, this shall be strictly for parents access and learners and failure to do this, you shall be held responsible.”
