COORDINATOR OF MAHA VOWS TO DEMOBILIZE EXPERT CLIENTS FOR WORLD AIDS DAY COME 2025 OVER BUDGET ALLOCATION

Mundua Vicky the coordinator of Moyo AIDS Heroes Association (MAHA) a non-governmental organization has decried limited funding from Moyo district local government to support HIV activities over the past years.
Speaking during the celebration of the world AIDS day in Dufile sub-county she said, come next year 2025 world AIDs day celebration in Otce sub-county, she has threatened to Mobilize expert clients not to turn up for celebration if 0.1% of contribution is not prioritized for HIV activities.
“Even last year we faced the same challenge to organize for world AIDS day celebration, I know the money come from different departments but next year out of shs 20.000,000 contribution from the central we are requesting district to support us with at least shs 5, 000,000 through CAO your office to cater for our activities, if not as I said we shall not attend to celebration” said the coordinator.
Madrara Bosco, the human resource officer who represented CAO remarked there is no direct funding meant for HIV activities but instead it will be budgeted out of local revenue which the district is struggling to collect. “Let us also encourage our people to pay tax so that some of the problems that align with money can be solved within our locality ‘’Bosco remarked.
The Resident District Commissioner of Moyo Gore Goffin acknowledged the challenge persons living with HIV have been encountering for the past years and promised to work with the office of the CAO to ensure full implementation of the 0.1% contribution is directed to MAHA in order to secure that source of funding.
“The Government of Uganda under the leadership of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has remained committed to its citizen including persons living with HIV, I request if there are some challenges you people are getting to access the 0.1% of the Money, please come forward and we discuss how to go about with the challenges otherwise that is not the best means of solving problem because we still need you a live,” Gore reacted.
Data from routine surveillance and population surveys indicate that, the HIV prevalence amongst adults has reduced from a peak of 5.1% national to 2.3% Moyo district in 2024 due to a well-coordinated multi-sectorial response by implementing partners especially Infectious Disease
Institute (IDI).
