Councillors have unanimously approved the detailed physical development plan 2024-2034 for Moyo town council in Moyo district during an extra-ordinary council meeting held on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Moyo town council hall.
The plan which covers 8.9 sqkm, was developed by Pride consultants limited and Eco-shelter east Africa with support from ministry of lands, Housing and urban development funded under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Additional Funding (USMID-AF) project.
The motion to approve the detailed plan was moved by Hon Gladys Letaru the councillor representing central ward, seconded by Hon Baatio Jane female councillor representing persons with disabilities in Moyo town council.
Among the key features of the detailed physical development plan include, national roads, district roads, access roads, and land use within the town council.
The speaker Moyo town council Baatio Joyce in her remarks welcomed the other councillors from the two sub counties of Aluru and Moyo who are co-beneficiaries of the plan, explaining that the plan has been over -due.
‘‘Members, the issue of this planning has been long due and I wish this would be the last time we come here for the same,” she said.
The speaker also called for continued unity and team spirit from the sister sub counties in order to achieve the desired development in the district, with need for more sensitization of the community on the physical development plan.
Baatio Joyce Oduu the female councillor Moyo town council alleged that it has been a tug of war for the town council to reach this level due to communication gap, appreciating the consultants’ team for the efforts up in for the success of the plan.
The physical planner Moyo town council Ovoyo Gad Sunday pointed that the draft of the detailed plan was displayed in August for review for comments from the stakeholders which was worked upon by the consultants’ team for final approval.
‘‘The urban council approved the detailed plan, which therefore means that it is ready for final production, dissemination, sensitization and implementation, so now we expect the ministry to work together with the consultant to ensure the plan and the full report is submitted to us so that we share these reports with the sub counties and we embark on serious sensitization to popularize the plan and ease implementation which should be embraced by the locals,” he noted.
Mr .Matua Emmanuel the project coordinator USMID AF west Nile region narrates that those areas annexed on the plan in the two sub- counties will be implemented by the respective authorities in the areas which should not be a cause for alarm.
‘‘these plans are for the people of Moyo , not for ministry of landS neither for the consultant ,so it is up to us to embrace ,adopt and implement it, you know once these plans are approved they become a law in themselves so that you work within it, or when you go against it can be used against you in court of law, on that note, allow me to congratulate the people of Moyo town council with the neighbours who are co- beneficiaries of the program,’’ he summarized.
