CRACKED PIT LATRINE IN AFOGI PRIMARY SCHOOL: FEARS OF COLLAPSE LOOM

Stakeholders of Afoji primary school in Moyo sub county, Moyo district have decried the poor state of the boy’s latrine which is at the verge of collapsing this rainy season putting the lives of the learners at risk.
The concern was raised during the monitoring of schools and health centers in the sub-county by the district councilors in relation to service delivery gaps, successes, and achievements.
Ms. .Madraa Josephine Jurugo, the senior woman teacher Afoji primary school remarked that they are now living in fear since the latrines have developed cracks especially now that it is raining heavily.
“As per now the condition of the boy’s latrine is alarming, the blockage is all cracked. So as a school, we are scared now that the rains are back, this condition may worsen or even lead to closure,” she lamented.
By the time of visit to the school, the administrators had advised the boys not to frequently use the latrines or use the nursery section for their safety.
Ms. Asianzo Aurelia, The female DLC Moyo sub-county sighted the need for immediate action and intervention from the district education office in seeing that the situation is arrested.
‘‘Sincerely the fact I found in Afogi primary about the latrine is so bitter, the situation is not okay if not looked at, as stakeholders it may collapse by mid-August ,so the district education office needs to do something ,’’she was quoted saying .
Responding to this concern, Mr. Mali Michael the district education officer explained that the budgeting process for this year has already been complemented calling for collective support from the community in addressing this matter for the mean time.
‘‘That has just been brought to our attention, but unfortunately the budgeting process for this year is complete, we can think of planning for repair the coming year, but as we wait we know the implication of operating without a latrine for a public facility so to avoid closure by public health authorities we request school community to mobilize the parents to support the school in constructing a temporary latrine for the learners,’’ he pointed.
In a related story, teachers of Kolokolo primary school in Moyo sub-county are living in fear due to the poor state of teachers’ accommodation facilities that has collapsed ceiling boards.
