This first ever Vurra Clan Chief’s anniversary in memory of the coronation of His Royal Highness Nayoni Adroni, was marked by traditional dances, foods and many other activities on Tuesday March 4, 2025.

His highness Yuma Amuku Manase the Agofe of the Lugbara Kari who presided over the colorful event challenged the local governments to support the cultural institutions in fight against moral decadence in the society, alcoholism, gender based violence among other anti-social behaviors.

Nelson Aleti the Wakili best known as the cultural chief of Arivu says immediately after the installation of the Vurra Clan Chief last year, they laid out programs to visit schools and established that parental neglect is a great barrier to better performance among the learners in Arua district.

He however warned parents against denial of children’s rights to education saying it’s not only fueling antisocial behaviors’ among the youths but also an act against the laws of the country.

“we found out that some of these pupils have been used by their parents to go and cater for animals, others go and guard crops from wild animal destructions, we have encouraged parents to stop the behaviors and stop over working their children since child labor is an offence and is prohibited in the society, they should equally provide scholastic materials for their children.”

Meanwhile Felix Edema the LC3 Chairperson of Arivu Sub County applauds the cultural institution for its development oriented interventions asking society to give support to the chiefdom in order to realize more progress.

Edema said that, “the reason why there is poor performance in schools, the moral decay among our sons and daughters is because cultural institutions are not there closely to shape the society, we used to sit together with our parents to tell stories but these things are dying.”

On the other hand George Vuga the Assistant Resident District Commissioner Arua encouraged the cultural institutions to support government in fighting poverty.

“Please support this government by talking to the people to move away from antisocial behaviors, by building in our people the value of respect, love, hard work and I know it is not an easy thing but it is a process.”

Next years’ Vurra Clan Chief’s anniversary is expected to be either in Logiri or Ajia Sub County dependent on the outcomes of the next Langa sitting.
