DP UNVEILS CANDIDATES IN WEST NILE FOR 2026 ELECTIONS

The 2026 general elections in Uganda has drawn significant attention, with many democratic party candidates expressing their intention to vie for the various elective positions in the West Nile region as each candidate brings a unique background and vision to the political arena.
The Democratic Party candidates were unveiled during the recently organized Democratic Party press conference for West Nile region in Arua City at Heritage Courts Hotel where Counsel Aliti Elia was endorsed as the DP presidential candidate.
Victor Ajuma an aspirant for the Member of Parliament for Terego West constituency shares some the reasons that have motivated him to contest in Terego West Constituency.
“This is the time for new chapter in Terego west constituency, the chapter of unity, transformation and shared progress we have been under represented in Terego west constituency for ten years,” he said.
Gerald Obini who is aspiring for the second time as the Member of Parliament for Vurra constituency under Democratic Party ticket says he intends to effectively represent the people once he is elected by the people of Vurra.
“My manifesto to come back to Vurra constituency is to offer effective representation to the people of Vurra, it’s not going to be I, me and myself when the people of Vurra send me to parliament but I will address their critical needs,” he said.
Emmanuel Abiti who is aspiring as the Member of Parliament for Maracha East constituency under Democratic Party explains some of the issues that he will address once he is elected by the people of Maracha East constituency as their member of parliament.
“Destructive politics has badly affected service delivery in Maracha as a district and Maracha East as a constituency which is evident in the recent release of health indicators assessment report which puts Maracha district third last in the whole country” he said.
Some of the candidates unveiled during the Democratic Party press conference included Gasper Piriyo the Arua City aspirant for Arua city mayoral seat, Philliam Ayikobua an aspirant for Local Council V chairman of Maracha district local government, Ben Yuma an aspirant for Local Council V Chairman seat in Terego district and others.
