National Voters Register Update has been extended for seven more days to allow more eligible Ugandans to register and update their details ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections.
Juma Shesha the election officer for West Nile region clarifies that the extension is not a fresh registration but an opportunity for eligible citizens who have not yet registered to do so.
“This is the last opportunity and it will give chance for Ugandans who will turn 18 years during the one week extended for the exercise to become voters and it will also allow registered voters to transfer to a new polling station, provided they prove residence or origin, and enable voters to verify and confirm their voting details,” he cleared.
Ramadan Nasur Yacob the Parish Election Officer for Tanganyika ward in Arua City says the extension will help them to complete the remaining areas they never covered during the 21 days.
“We didn’t finish some areas especially Oli D cell in Arua central division which has very high population that’s why we have been praying for this extension many people were going to miss out to become voters,” Ramadan said.
Faraj Hassan the Parish election officer for Pangisha ward says the extension will help them to enrol more new voters into the system.
Faraj explained that, “this extension will help us to reduce the overwhelming number of new voters because people are turning up in large numbers towards the closure of the exercise and some registration stations were lacking kits so this extension will address the gap.”
While addressing the press in Kampala, Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon announced that the exercise, which was set to end today, will now continue from Tuesday, February 11, to Monday, February 17, 2025, running daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including weekends.
