The Electoral Commission has scheduled the final stage of the Women’s Councils elections, with 147 delegates set to elect the National Women’s Executive Committee in Kampala.
The Electoral Commission has set September 3 and 4, 2026, for the election of the National Women’s Executive Committee, with 147 delegates forming the electoral college.
The electoral college will comprise 146 chairpersons of City and District Women’s Councils and one woman with a disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
According to the Electoral Commission, delegates will convene at Kyambogo College School in Nakawa Division, Kampala, on Thursday, September 3, for accreditation and nomination of candidates.
Accreditation will begin at 10:00am, while nomination for the four positions will start at 2:00pm.
The positions are chairperson, vice chairperson, publicity secretary and secretary for finance.
Nominated candidates will campaign on Friday, September 4, starting at 8:00am, before polling begins at noon.
Voting will be conducted by secret ballot.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the election would mark the final stage in the programme to constitute Women’s Councils and Committees from the village to national level.
“This election will be the last level in the electoral programme for composing Women’s Councils and Committees from the Village to National Level,” Byabakama said.
He urged delegates and candidates to adhere to the stipulated dates, times and procedures.
Eligible delegates seeking to contest for any of the four positions can obtain nomination forms from the Office of the Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City in Ministers Village, Ntinda, Nakawa.
The Kampala Capital City Returning Officer will also serve as the Returning Officer for the national women’s election.
The national conference will bring together members of the National Women’s Council who will participate in electing the executive committee through the Electoral College.
The Electoral Commission said the arrangements are intended to guide candidates and delegates and ensure compliance with electoral procedures.
