Environmentalist have warned of impending danger associated with destruction of the environment especially during the dry season destroying the natural biodiversity.

This comes at a time of booming brick laying activities during the dry season, which environmentalists, say is causing more harm than good.

In an exclusive interview with David Edaku an expert in climate Smart Agriculture and Climate science says brick laying poses danger not only to the soil but also through the emission of carbondixide during burning.

“When you’re making bricks you create a lot of gullies, there is a lot of tree destruction because people need fire wood for burning the bricks and once that happens it causes massive destruction over time, even if in small bits over time its cumulative effect is big, and my humble piece of advice would be to request people to invest in growing wood then if it were possible our taxation policy should be re vised and the prices of cement comes down,  a policy be passed for people to adopt the use of concrete  blocks in construction industry.”

Ferua Richard Andama an environmentalist calls for the conservation of the environment especially trees indicating the coming danger if deforestation is not minimized.

“There people clearing trees, when they clear trees, they are clearing many things, this cycle of things can only be maintained when we conserve, preserve and protect our environment, cutting of trees should be done sustainably out soils are wearing out, we are talking about infertility of the land, land is infertile because once environment is bare rains will fall and wash away the top soil and leaving actually the soils barren,” he echoed.

Research indicates that, globally, the brick industry significantly contributes to CO2 emissions, with furnaces releasing over 1,072 million tonnes of CO2 annually, accounting for 2.7% of total emissions.

However, the environmental impact of brick production varies widely depending on the region and the technologies used.
