EU GETS 4 ACRES OF LAND FOR ESTABLISHING EMBASSY IN WEST NILE

Arua district has offered 4 acres of land for the establishment an Embassy for 11 European member countries as a move to ensure enhanced cordial relationship.

According to the Arua district Chairman Alfred Okuonzi the four acre piece of Land is to ensure a direct link between 13 local governments in west Nile region that are heavily burdened by the influx of refugees and climatic conditions and the 11 European Union Member countries.

“I have given a 4 acre land in Arua at no cost, for you to put your embassy which is going to be European Union Embassy, this is to enhance this partnership which is an infinite, one because EU has invested a lot in this region of West Nile,” Okuonzi stated.

On the other hand Akuma Odims the executive director West Nile Development Association, the unifying body for the 13 local governments explained that the region has a huge potential of growth but is grappling with huge unemployment crisis among the young people that needs to be tackled.

The delegation of 11 European member states led by the EU deputy ambassador Chartain Guillaume are for diplomatic mission understanding the political, social management dynamics of the region that is refugee stressed, coupled with the civil unrests in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

Chartain revealed that this is equally a benchmark to assess the country’s preparations ahead of the 2026 General elections.

“West Nile is also a concentrate of all the challenges, all the opportunities that Uganda as a country is experiencing, so coming to west Nile discussing with the local leaders and the communities is a blessing. It’s also a benchmark to understand the economic, social, political, health that Uganda as a country is experiencing a head of the 2026 general elections.”  

The team of governors and ambassadors are expected to visit Arua city, Arua district, and Rhino camp Refugee settlement and later end their mission in Koboko district interacting with the local leaders, civil society and community members.
