In a bid to promote peace, democracy and reconciliation, amnesty commission has equipped a section of Ex-combatants in Terego district with a knowledge on National Transitional Justice Policy.

During the training recently held at Katrini sub county headquarters in Terego west constituency, the Public Relations Officer for Amnesty Commission Moses Draku said that, “In West Nile, I am not sure whether the traditional justice policy is here or not but it seems to be dying off and another area which will be addressed by transitional justice policy is reconciliation which is in the amnesty act and this will be strengthened further so that, there is not only rehabilitation but also national development embedded in the policy.”

But Jamal Buga, one of the trainees expressed his gratitude to Amnesty commission for systematizing the training. “I would like to be appreciative to amnesty commission for having organized the training. It is going to help me to stay in unity with my people at home” stated Jamal.

Meanwhile, the Aii-vu sub county LC 3 chairman Hon Kennedy Anguyo says that, the attitude of the people in Terego district towards attending trainings is very poor before calling them to desist from the habit. “The world of today needs education and we should take it as a serious thing for our own transformation,” requested Kennedy.

On the other hand, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Terego, Munduni Rose Emmanuel calls upon those still in the bush to return back home without fear as the government is ready to welcome them. “I would like to applaud all the ex-combatants for having peacefully accepted to return back home. Our homes are neither in DR Congo nor in South Sudan, feel free to show up as the government is arranged to welcome you and support you,” said Emmanuel.

National Transitional Justice Policy is a comprehensive framework implemented by the government of Uganda to address the justice, accountability, and reconciliation needs of post-conflict Uganda.
