In a damning assessment, councilors in Terego District have rated the education sector as the worst department in terms of service delivery. This verdict was delivered by a cross-section of councilors, who expressed their deep-seated concerns about the state of education in the district.
The councilors have therefore called on the apex district administration to take immediate action to address the challenges facing the education sector.
The Secretary of Works Hon Ezama James Nadua says, the education sector has failed to meet the expectations of the people of Terego.
"As councilors, we have a duty to ensure that services are delivered to our people, but unfortunately, the education sector has not lived up to its billing where you find instead of teaching, teachers are seated under trees discussing political issues," Hon. Nadua lamented.
Meanwhile, Hon. Candiru Jesca Abedi, the Female District Councilor for Aiivu sub County echoed Hon. Nadua's sentiments, citing lack of consistent meetings. “I am under that department and we have never monitored any activity that is being implemented by these people and with the support they have given us is not being apportioned by the committees and as my colleagues have stated, education sector in this district is the worst compared to other sectors." said Hon. Aisha.
Hon. Stella, another councilor, also weighed in on the issue, highlighting why the sector is performing poorly. "In this district we have very many sectors but the worst performing sector is education and I don’t know why but my appeal to that department is that, this mentality of doing things in corridor must stop." Hon. Stella emphasized.
The councilors' concerns are backed by statistics, which show that Terego District has consistently performed poorly in national examinations.
