Oyam
The seat of the National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Oyam district has attracted five aspirants.
They are George Ewai, who retired as Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Robert Opio Mutenge a businessman, Martin Abila the former NRM Chairperson [2021-2015], Bosco Onyik Ogwal, former official at National council of sport and the sitting chairperson Jasper Onena.
Onena says he wants to retain his position and use it to make NRM preserve its glory in Oyam.
‘’I first expressed that I'm not feeling that I should contest in the coming election but people are requesting me to continue leading them to ensure that NRM attains success in Oyam District and that's why I am now coming up. I am not ready to let them down and they are still trusting me,’’ Onena said.
George Ewai, in phone interview confirmed he is present for the NRM chairman race for Oyam district and that he will do his consultation with his voters soon.
“Yes, I am contesting. I have not changed my mind. I am a mobilizer and I will keep listening to them one by one until the end,” Ewai said.
Bosco Onyik Ogwal, another aspirant said people have requested him to go and lead the NRM party.
‘’ The people have spoken and I will not have any doubt in my mind to think the way they are thinking. That is to come and help lead the party in the district because I have only the technique to lead the party,’’ Onyik explained.
Martin Abila, who is eyeing the same post says he is unique among the five aspirants because NRM needs a person who is well versed with mobilizing skills like him to bring more people to the party.
He said that he doesn't have any fear because he is unique in a way that he is known in all those villages in all the 16 sub-counties. “Besides that, I know how to formalize the structure that comes and votes at the district level so the rest who come are not aware of that,’’ Abila said.
The NRM grass root election is hopeful to kick off early next month in December and is expected to end at the National conference.
