GOVERNMENT EXTENDS CLOSURE OF KARUMA BRIDGE TO MARCH 17
DAILY MONITOR
The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced an extension of the closure of both Karuma and Ayago bridges for an additional week, now set to start on March 17, 2025.
Originally, the closure was scheduled to begin on Monday, March 10, 2025, and run through March 31, 2025.
Speaking to the Monitor on March 9, 2025, Mr Allan Ssempebwa from the Ministry of Works and Transport Communications department, said the extension will allow the government to complete the ongoing repairs on the Masindi Port Ferry, which is one of the designated alternative routes for motorists.
As a result of this extension, the expected reopening date after the original 21-day closure will also be delayed by another week, now set for April 7, 2025.
The closure of Karuma and Ayago bridges will prevent all traffic from using these routes to facilitate the installation of expansion joints, as previously scheduled.
