Government is called upon to value the international youth day celebrations so as to address the issues of the youth in the country, and give them a platform to achieve economic progress. This appeal was made by the leaders as the world celebrated the 2024 International youth day.

International youth day is celebrated every year on the August 12, and this special occasion celebrates the potential, accomplishments, and contributions of the young people around the world.

Drate Yassin Jafar, the executive director of West Nile youth empowerment center admits that, the youth plays a lot of roles, and there is need for the government to consider their day, “Why this day came was to celebrate the potential of the young people, the contribution of the young people, why young people have brought on table at the international community, many young people do not know that today is international youth day, many do not participate in these affaires, why, it starts with government making the young people at grass roots aware of the day, many times we have seen government organize programs, youth days have just been taken very simply by government,” Drate said.

Similarly, Aisha Alioru, a youth in Arua city encourages the government to provide more skilling projects to the youth, and provide employment opportunities, “You work to get money to do other things, you know, there are also many youth who are just loitering without work, government needs to give more trainings to the youth such that, they get jobs, even there are some, after their studies, there is no job for them, government needs to create more jobs to the youth ,”said Aisha.

Much as the world celebrated the day, Arua city has pushed its celebrations ahead. Doreen Onyiru, the female youth counselor in the city confirms this,
“Arua city will have it in September; we started preparations late, so we have postponed it to September,” Onyiru said.

The world celebrated the international youth day with the theme, “from cliques to progress, youth digital pathways for sustainable development.”
