GULU ARCHDIOCESE SEEKS 108 MILLION SHILLINGS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW ARCHBISHOP.

The central organizing committee for the upcoming installation of the new Archbishop, the Most Reverend P`mony Rapheal Wokorach, has kicked off the search for the more than one hundred million shillings required for the function which is slated for the 12th of July this year at St. Joseph’s Cathedral church in Gulu city.

Rev.Fr. Martin Agwee, the chancellor of Gulu Archdiocese who doubles as the treasurer for the installation of the new archbishop said that out of the approved budget of 108,372,000 million for the function just only 2.5 million shillings has so far been raised. “We are calling for support from the parishioners and well-wishers for the success of this noble course”, he said.

Rev.Fr Michael Lawrence Komakech the parish priest of St Joseph’s Cathedral Gulu, who is also the chairperson organizing committee for the installation of the new archbishop revealed that they are expecting at least 5000 people to attend this historic event. “According to the plan of central organizing committee, we are planning to receive about 5000 people for that day and that number is too big for the cathedral because it has a sitting capacity for only 2500 people and since the function will take place inside the cathedral, the COC will do additional job to extend the cathedral by putting tents outside the church to accommodate as many people as possible”, he added.

Most Rev Raphael P'Mony Wokorach, the archbishop elect of Gulu Catholic Archdiocese will be installed on July 12, 2024 at St Joseph`s Cathedral in Gulu City.
Most Rev.Raphael P’Mony Wokorach, Mccj the archbishop elect was appointed by his holiness Pope Francis on the 22nd March 2024, He becomes the second Archbishop of Gulu since becoming attaining an archdiocese status in 1999. He replaces Archbishop Emeritus John Baptist Odama who resigned from the position upon clocking the retirement age of 75 years.

According to the Canon 401 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, all bishops must submit their resignation to the Pope at the age of 75.

Archbishop Emeritus, Dr. John Baptist Odama who is now acting as the Apostolic Administrator of Gulu Archdiocese implores the new archbishop elect to serve the people of Gulu Ecclesiastical province with love and zeal just as he did for 25 years when he was still the Archbishop of Gulu.
