JOURNALISTS IN WESTNILE EMPOWERED ON REPORTING CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE

The fight against climate change has been intensified in the west Nile region with the kicking off of training of the first batch of communicators in a three days exercise organized by Info Nile geared at mentoring and empowering reporters in uncovering critical stories on climate change and Agriculture.

More than 10 journalist in west Nile region will unveil stories in the aspect of Climate Smart Agriculture.

The office manager at info Nile Andrew Aijuka states that diverse negative impact of climate change which is a threat to food security in the west Nile region informed this training.

“This is in abid to make sure farmers in the Northern region adapt to the smart ways of doing of Agriculture, we are bringing the informers of the society who happen to be the journalist and the gate keepers who happen to be the editors, so that they are aware how important it is for an Agriculturist to receive information on how to do Climate smart Agriculture.”

Jonathan Driliga one of the facilitators states that the reporters need extra knowledge in reporting stories related climate smart Agriculture. “The role of the media especially in matters related to climate change cannot be undestimated and indeed this training provides them an opportunity to sharpen their skills to improve on the already existing skills of the reporters.”

Josephine Osandru another journalist says that she is ready to create awareness around climate smart Agriculture. “I am looking forward to educating someone so that we change how we have been abusing the environment.”

Andrew Cohen Amvesi also a journalist is excited to explore stories in the field of climate smart Agriculture. “The training has come in handy to enhance the little knowledge that we had so that we can inform the public positively.”

Info Nile mentors and trains Journalists in data journalism and science communication and empower them in obtaining information and reporting about climate smart Agriculture.
