The Bishop of the Diocese of Kajo Keji, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lulua James, has called for collaboration among communities in Moyo, Obongi, Yumbe and Kajo Keji to promote peaceful co-existence along the Uganda-South Sudan border.

Rt. Rev. Lulua says peace along the border is key to promoting development, trade and peaceful co-existence among communities.

“The original plan of God is for humanity to live in harmony. This reminds me of some of my previous learning when I was studying education. I was reminded by UNESCO that one of the pillars of education is for people to learn to live together,” the Bishop said.

Taban Simon Benson, the Director of Faith Development Relief Agency (FADRA), which operates under the Diocese of Kajo Keji, says people living in Moyo, Yumbe and Obongi, as well as those in Kajo Keji, are one people.

“By that, we can testify that when the people of Kajo Keji were displaced, they sought refuge in neighboring districts. I am quite sure that our being together here today is not only going to remind us of our togetherness, but it is also going to cement any kind of gaps that might have existed,” Simon stressed.

Meanwhile, Obongi District LC5 Chairperson, Haji Buga Habibu Khamis, says the district is doing its best to support the refugee community, as he appeals for greater collaboration among the various stakeholders.

“We support them. There are defilement cases where some people from South Sudan go to the settlements in Uganda to defile our young girls, who could in future attain a good level of education. But all those things are happening. Therefore, we need to work together,” he said.

Religious leaders and institutions are often perceived as neutral, trusted, and credible authorities outside official political structures, giving them unique moral leverage to advocate for justice and human rights.
