The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese has encouraged all the Catholic Churches from across all the Dioceses in the country to promote and form Kolping Society Families in their various Churches.

The Bishop made the remark during the National Kolping World day of prayer at Our lady of Assumption Buyege Parish in Mpigi district on Sunday.

Speaking during the event, The Archbishop Rt Rev Paul Ssemogerere said, as they honor the legacy of Fr Adolph Kolping, his vision and dedication inspired the Kolping society and the organization embodies the church’s core values, fostering strong families and communities rooted in Christian principles.

"The Kolping Society is incredibly relevant today as it touches the very heart of the church-the family. Without strong families, the church is in jeopardy, for the family is indeed the first church", he said.

"Kolping Society's inclusive approach, involving the youth, women, the vulnerable and the traders through savings and credit programs, truly exemplifies moving together as a community of God. Your efforts have significantly uplifted many lives, addressing both spiritual and bodily needs, thus fulfilling the Church's mission", the Archbishop added.

He encouraged the Kolping families to embrace the program of tree planting because the lives of the human beings depend on the environment.

The Managing director of the Uganda Kolping Society Mr. Fred Wakisa said, the blessed Fr Adolph Kolping was born and raised from a humble family in Germany and that the members of the Kolping society should emulate his legacy.

"Our focus as Uganda Kolping Society is to help people to escape poverty through their own efforts of help for self-help Projects. Our projects aim at social change to overcome hopelessness, injustices; the structures that perpetuate Poverty", he said.

He urged the members of the Kolping Society to work together to defend human life and protect the family institution as the salt and light of the humanity.

Mr. Peter Guloba, the president Uganda Kolping Society said, the slogan of the Kolping Society is praying, learning and working seriously but joyfully.

He said, they are mindful of striving to prosper materially as a whole team of members in the Kolping Families.

"Christianity doesn't consist of empty words but its living deeds. The world would become a much better place if we practiced Christianity with each other, did good deeds for one another to be good and keep away from evil", he said.

"We have had several social challenges including civil wars, political unrests, famine, hunger, health ailments and epidemics, floods, extreme heat/drought among others. All these challenges require divine interventions and that our prayers collectively can reverse the status quo", he added.

Kolping Society is an association in the Church that was started by blessed Fr Adolph Kolping in the year 1850 in Germany. It arrived in Uganda in Hoima Diocese in 1977 and has now spread to a number of Dioceses in the country.
