Lugbara cultural institution Lugbara kari has distanced herself from any partnership with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ahead of the party’s 4th edition of the countrywide tour in Arua city on 27th July 2024.
This comes after a poster of the party with the official logo of Lugbara kari was published by some members of the FDC party, raising questions among the public over the affiliation of lugbara kari to the said political party as an independent body.
The premier of Lugbara kari, hon. Ismael Tuku while speaking to the media on Monday, July 15, 2024, denied any affiliation and partnership of Lugbara kari to FDC party in the upcoming rally as no official request was made to them asking for immediate removal of the logo from the poster.
“Lugbara kari is non-partisan, the logo of Lugbara kari can be accessed by any person through the social media, it can be used by any foe, Lugbara kari therefore distances itself from the advert of that public rally by FDC party, we are not part and person of that arrangement,” Tuku declared.
Lugbara kari is currently at verge of reorganization with plans to gazette the institution with ministry of gender, labour and social development after its constitution was amended this year.
Alekua Jaffar the clerk to council for Lugbara kari labelled the illegal use of the logo as an act of tarnishing the image of Lugbara kari. “The logo for Lugbara is for Lugbara kari as a government of the Lugbara people, it is nonpartisan and posting the logo without our prior permission has actually tarnished the image and integrity of Lugbara kari as a cultural institution, these people must remove this logo immediately,” Alekua noted
But Hassan Kaps Fungaro the FDC vice president for Northern Uganda called for dialogue among the leaders of Lugbara kari and the subjects as the poster is not official. “That thing must have been made by a Lugbara, it is not an official party position that the logo of Lugbara kari should be put on any of our posters or banners but people who are proud of their cultural identities usually add the symbols of their cultural institutions, let the cultural institution call the son of the Lugbara and talk to them so that they understand and they don’t misuse the logo,”Fungaro said.
As reinstated in 1993 under article 246 of the 1995 constitution of Uganda, cultural institutions shall remain independent as guided by ministry of gender labor and social development.
