Local Council One and Two leaders and executives of Metu Sub County have been sworn in and handed stamps of authority to officially commence work in their respective villages and parishes.
The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the sub-county headquarters, was presided over by Ojok Kelil Bran, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Moyo District.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the Deputy CAO urged the LC leaders to use the tools of authority entrusted to them to promote development in Metu Sub County.
“You know in the history of Moyo, Metu is a model sub county.so let’s use the stamp to regain our status in Moyo district. That means the authority should be used to bring more money, more income.” Kelil noted.
On the other hand, Lemi Francis Tiondi, the Local Council Three Chairperson of Metu Sub County, cautioned the leaders against misusing the stamps.
“There’s a lot beneath this stamp, if you use it the right way, we shall see development but if we use it the wrong way, we shall lag behind. There are some people who have been using the stamps to aid animal theft but if I hear you misusing the stamps, I will not forgive you.” Lemi cautioned.
Drajuruga Isaak Vuni, the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration in Moyo District, also urged the leaders to put aside their political differences and focus on serving their communities and promoting development.
“Now elections are over. If you did not vote me it’s your right or if I did not vote you it’s my right. Now what matters is that we now have a leader and we focus on development,” Drajuruga advised.
Meanwhile, Izaruku Martin, the Speaker of Moyo District Council, challenged the LC leaders to hold regular meetings with local residents to promote proper planning and effective service delivery.
“We shall check how many meetings you have conducted in your village. Go to you village and start your planning meeting because planning begins from the village depending on what you want,” he said.
The swearing is in accordance with the 14th schedule of the local government act cap 238.
