The Ministry of Health has indefinitely postponed the planned training for Lango clan leaders aimed at combating malaria.

This decision follows concerns raised by Lango cultural leadership regarding procedural issues in the invitation criteria.

Recently, the Ministry of Health launched a nationwide initiative to engage cultural leaders in sensitizing communities on government efforts to fight malaria.
The program seeks to leverage cultural leaders in mobilizing support for malaria prevention and treatment.

The training for Lango cultural leaders was initially scheduled for Friday, May 2. However, the Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona announced that the session has been postponed.

He stated that a new date is yet to be determined and assured that once rescheduled, cultural leaders would be duly informed.

The Speaker of Lango cultural institution, Willy Omodo Omodo, urged the Ministry to refrain from involvement in divisive matters, particularly as the Lango community is uniting following the recent passing of a clan chief.

Omodo expressed concern that a Ministry of Health representative had invited Lango clan leaders to a malaria sensitization meeting without following proper invitation procedures through the current Lango cultural leadership.

Similar malaria awareness trainings have already been conducted for traditional leaders in Buganda, Alur, Rwenzururu, Lugbara, Bagwere, and other communities.
