Ministry of water and environment has handed over sites for a 14.1 billion solar powered pipep water in Moyo district. The multi-billion project is funded by World Bank that will benefit Lefori and Laropi Sub County including their town councils.

The two sites of Gwere in Lefori and Laropi solar piped water projects have been handed over to Testa technical services company and is expected to start work at the site immediately.

Eng. Francis Tumwine the assistant commissioner ministry of water and environment says this is to address the high demand of water by the community.

“The demand for safe and clean water is everywhere in the country but we will do our best to see how we can solve them. We have different polices we are implementing now to address this, what is limiting us is funding otherwise if we had sufficient funds we would be in position to address all the challenges,” Eng. Tumwine said.

Hon. Anyama Williams the district chairperson applauded the ministry of water and Environment for the project and asked to cover the community at whole.

“We are very happy, our appeal to the ministry is to ensure all the needy villages and parishes that are affected by water problems are reached to because these are one off opportunities that may not come every time. We also appreciate the intervention in having a treatment plant that means the quality assurance of water is quite good.” Hon. Anyama said.

Mr. Julius Nyerere Ambama the assistant RDC Moyo called for value for money during the construction.

“Don’t ever be compromised neither by ministry nor local government that is district leaders in corruption tendencies. As office of the president you will be our best partner if you desist from this evil corruption and deliver quality and affordable clean water to our people.” Mr. Nyerere urged.

Over the years both communities in laropi and Lefori have been suffering from lack of safe and clean water.

Mrs. Mungweku Teopista a mother in laropi town council says this might be an answer to their long term prayers.

“We are actually very grateful for this water project. This is what we have been waiting for. As Laropi town council and greater Laropi we are happy for the project. With this we hope not to face water challenges again,” Mrs. Mungweku said.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2025.
