Moyo District has celebrated the belated International Youth Day 2026 under the theme, “Empowering Young People for Inclusive Wealth Creation and Sustainable Development.”
The celebration, which took place in Lefori Town Council on September 26, 2026 attracted young people from across the district, as well as district leaders and development partners, to support and empower the young generation.
Adrawa Vincent, the Moyo District Youth Council Chairperson, highlighted the objectives of the celebration, saying it was aimed at creating awareness and finding solutions to challenges affecting young people.
“We celebrate the day to strengthen ourselves as youth, with the main objective that we need to address certain issues that we, the youth, are encountering and find solutions to them because most of us youth are unemployed. So, we need to fight hard so that we stand strong and develop our own West Nile,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maridio Univer, the Moyo District Female Youth Leader, appealed to fellow youths to reorganize and support one another in order to develop and transform their communities.
“My dear fellow youth, Youth are the drivers of every society. We carry fresh ideas, dreams, opportunities and change to the community. Youth, let’s use this opportunity to support one another, learn from each other and grow together,” Maridio stressed.
Equally, Weli Emmanuel, the Councilor representing the youth, encouraged young people to make use of available opportunities to improve their productivity.
“The youth are the strength and future of Moyo District. Let us unite, work together and build a healthy and prosperous Moyo District. We, the youth, have the ability to transform our communities through education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, sports and leadership. I therefore encourage every young person to develop a skill, embrace hard work and make use of the available opportunities. Let’s reject drug abuse and anything that is not our future. Let’s think positively,” Weli advised.
Meanwhile, the Moyo Resident District Commissioner for, Ochailap Geoffrey Filbert, pledged support from his office and said he would engage the government to provide more skilling tools for young people.
“My youth, the government has given you the skilling hub, but there are some issues we are following as district leaders to ensure the government gives us more materials for our different projects to increase productivity,” he said.
International Youth Day is celebrated annually on August 12 to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potential of young people as active partners in global society.
