MOYO DRIVERS ANGRILY STORM MOYO YUMBE KOBOKO ROAD CONTRACTOR’S OFFICE OVER EMPLOYMENT IRREGULARITIES

Drivers in Moyo district who had applied for Job opportunities with Chongqing Construction Company working on Moyo Yumbe Koboko road stormed the companies’ offices in Eria Moyo sub county raising concerns over less priority given to the sons of the soil in the recruitment of employees.

Around 11am on Thursday, the angry drivers reached up the side were works had started wish bush clearing which had to be put on halt to sort out the grievances of the drivers.

On behalf the drivers Abui Nusru a resident of Adua village, Moyo Sub County said when the company called for interviews, they applied and they were shortlisted, they did the interviews and were not called.

“They kept on giving interviews, they came and called us again for interviews, which we attend. They could not call us after here, they called their own people” he pointed.

He added that some of the drivers who didn’t do interviews are working as they sons of the soil are being left out.

As they accused the Human resource officer for recruiting people from outside, Fikiri Zahara who is the Human Resource manager said most of the drivers complaining were not having the required permits.

“At least we could recruit people who have documents and having the experience for all to have quality of work and achieve the goals of the project” she added.

As the angry drivers ordered the road construction to stop, John Isa the GISO Moyo sub county said there is no need for the work to be stopped.

“There is no need to stop the work people are already angry for the delays in this work, they cannot stop, and not all of them can even enter the lorry” John said.
Meanwhile the LC 3 chairperson Moyo Sub County said there is need for the company to review their recruitment policy.

“We did not expect all this kind of situation to be happening but very soon we are going to engage the district leaders and also the contractor to see that the issues are addressed,” the sub county chairperson noted.

Justine Guma on behalf of the construction company said the recruitment was not done on segregation but pledged to readjust.

As getting the solution to the problem when the work was stopped, 2 of the drivers were given fresh examination, one past and the other one failed.
