Moyo District has registered a steady improvement in safe water coverage at household level, now standing at 86 percent in 2026, up from 78 percent in 2025.
This was revealed during the belated commemoration of World Water Day and Environment Day, held on March 24, 2026, in Lefori Sub-county.
According to Anyanzo Raymond, the District Water Officer, the district has made significant progress in improving access to clean and safe water, although some sub-counties continue to face serious challenges due to difficult terrain.
“Places like Metu and Otce sub-counties still face a big challenge in accessing clean water sources. We are planning to put up more boreholes,” he said.
Alule James, the Senior Environmental Health Officer for Moyo District, urged community members to take ownership of water sources and ensure they are properly maintained and kept clean.
Meanwhile, Mawadri Idro Mark, the Health Assistant at Chokwe Health Centre, appealed to the district water office to increase the number of boreholes in Itanji Village to ease pressure on the existing water source.
World Water Day was celebrated under the theme: “Water and Gender.” The theme highlights the critical role that women and girls play in water management. In many parts of the world, women remain primarily responsible for collecting water for their families.
