Local Council One and Two leaders in Moyo Sub-county, Moyo District, have pledged to fulfil their leadership responsibilities in their respective villages and parishes.
The leaders made the commitment after taking their oaths of leadership during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Moyo Sub-county headquarters.
Ganyizara Mondo Caesar, the LC1 chairperson of Demgbele Village in Aria Parish, promised to regularly organize community meetings to ensure the smooth running of his office.
“Now that we have been sworn in and are going home to start work, my first thing is to organize a meeting with my people. I will also make sure we have an office for my people, to show them that they really have a leader and can directly address their issues there,” said Ganyizara.
Equally, Tiondi James, the LC1 chairperson of Oyajo Village, says he plans to improve the welfare of his community by working closely with residents.
“We are now given the go-ahead and the power to start our work. What I planned for is to meet with my community and start planning for serious business. It is what I had planned before that when I become the leader of my village, I will sacrifice everything to serve my people,” stressed Tiondi.
Meanwhile, the Officer in Charge of Police at Moyo Sub-county urged the newly sworn-in leaders to work within the law and serve their communities diligently.
“You as an LC, you are the eye of government in that village. All people are looking at you what is our LC doing? How is he helping us? And all of us know that our motto in Uganda is ‘For God and My Country,’ meaning that everything we do in Uganda should be done in the fear of God.
“Now, as you swear ‘So help me God,’ you should be able to be a true leader. When a problem arises or somebody reports to you, please know how to handle it and know your boundaries where to stop,” Emyailai said
However, Bada Emmanuel Nunu, the District Local Council representative for Moyo Sub-county, congratulated the leaders upon their election and urged them to acquaint themselves with existing by-laws to help prevent criminal acts in their communities.
“I really appreciate my LCs for the successful swearing-in, and I call upon all of them to equip themselves with the guidelines and policies that govern local governments in Uganda. With that, they will deliver what is expected of them,” Bada disclosed
The swearing-in of the LCs and their executive members was conducted by Asienzo Catherine Riri, the third-in-command, representing the District Chief Administrative Officer.
