There is a stare of confusion among locals in Moyo District as over 20 workers attached to Zhongmei Company LTD constructing the Moyo Yumbe Koboko road were sent home last week.
To many, it’s unclear if they are being laid off or will resume working soon.
Aldo Mawa the secretary Tipper Drivers Association Moyo claims that, the company seems not to have the monies to pay off staff hence sending them off for some time.
“I have several complains from the drivers that were sent home. They (drivers) said that there is no money with the company so they should first wait for about 2 or 3 weeks and will be called back,” Mawa revealed.
Aldo added that, being in the association of Drivers of the tipper Lorries Moyo, they got worried as they don’t know what’s happening there.
But, When Radio Pacis got in contact with the affected persons, they said that, they are literally being urged to stay home for two weeks as monies are being approved by the World Bank for the full commencement of the construction works.
We spoke to Sacrum Tajo one of the affected persons, he clarified that the issue is not as its being reported.
“They said, (Zhongmei Company) started the project works with their own money, so now it’s like they are lacking funds so they were supposed to get the first phase from World Bank where by the money is still delaying so the project cannot run yet, that’s why they told us to stay home for two weeks” Tajo revealed.
Getting response from Zhongmei constructing company ltd, Fikiri Zahara the human resource officer dismissed the allegation saying they have not laid off anybody as they are working on other paper documents.
“There are one to two paper works we are finalizing, we will be back on board, just like there are one or two documents which are not approved,” Fikiri noted.
