MTN UGANDA LAUNCHES COMPUTER LAB AT ARIWA SECONDARY SCHOOL, YUMBE

Under the 30-days of yellow care campaign, MTN Uganda has supported Ariwa Secondary School in Yumbe District with 20 HP computers to boost ICT department the school, now with an enrolment of more than 1,000 learners comprising of students from both refugee and host communities.
The campaign which runs from 1st to 30th June 2024 aims at uniting employees of the company through activities aimed at improving quality and access to education.
According to MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer, Somdev Sen, this comes along with 1-year free internet and other component for the school. “We are also giving them 1-year of free internet so that they can use the computers and internet to do their research, have fun and to learn more. Because electricity is also a problem here, we are also ensuring solar power system for the computer lab so that they can use the computers. Apart from that, girls in the school really have a problem in terms of changing sand sanitary needs, so we are building a changing room for them so that they can have more hygienic times during their period” he confirmed.
Ariwa Secondary School Head Teacher, Zainab Atim, is hopeful that the school will achieve it target given the boost in ICT department. “This partnership is about investing in the dream and aspirations of our students as well by ensuring that no child is left behind simply because of geographical location” she said.
An official from Office of the Prime Minister, Richard Acidri while speaking at official handover, makes an appeal implementing partners to extend similar support to other schools. “In a phased manner, we want to see all these schools are connected to internet and receiving equipment like computers” he appealed.
Yumbe District leaders challenge the school administration to ensure safety of the computers. The school is also expected to benefit from solar system and changing room for girls.
