MUHOOZI URGES SFC COMMANDERS TO ADAPT TO NEW WARFARE TECHNOLOGY

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba meeting with Special Forces Command leaders.
NILE POST
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has urged commanders of the Special Forces Command (SFC) to adapt quickly to emerging military technologies, saying modern security threats require new approaches to warfare.
Kainerugaba said technological advances are changing the nature of warfare and challenged SFC commanders to continuously study global security developments and integrate appropriate technologies into military operations.
He made the remarks on Friday while presiding over a handover and takeover ceremony at SFC headquarters in Entebbe, where Maj Gen David Mugisha handed over command of the force to Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru.
The change of command followed the recent appointment and promotion of Mweteise to the rank of Major General.
The CDF told commanders that keeping pace with technological developments was critical to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ ability to respond effectively to evolving security threats.
The SFC is a specialised component of the UPDF responsible for special operations, securing key national installations and protecting the President and the First Family.
Kainerugaba also reflected on the development of the SFC, recalling that he began his military training in 1994 at Sera Kasenyi Training School when military infrastructure and resources were limited.
He commended officers for transforming the unit from its origins as the Presidential Protection Unit (PPU) into a specialised military force.
Kainerugaba congratulated Mugisha for his leadership and thanked him for his service as he prepares to undertake a course at the National Defence College abroad.
He expressed confidence in Mweteise’s ability to lead the SFC and challenged him to build on the progress made by his predecessor.
Mugisha thanked the Commander-in-Chief and the CDF for giving him an opportunity to serve in the SFC and pursue further professional military training.
Mweteise, who formally assumed command, thanked Kainerugaba for his mentorship and pledged to build on the support extended to the UPDF.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, including Chief of Joint Staff Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security Maj Gen Richard Otto, Joint Staff Finance Brig Gen Robert Mugabe and SFC Chief of Staff Brig Gen Mango Baraza.
Other attendees included Joint Staff Training and Doctrine representative Col Susan Lakot, as well as SFC group and brigade commanders and directors.
