The newly elected Ediofe trading center committee members are promising improved security and business as they kick start their term in office.
For long the trading center has been operating without any leadership structure since the dissolution of the committee that was in place under the then Pajulu sub county leadership.
The newly elected Ediofe trading center chairperson Mike Baiga declares his plans of setting up different committees to oversee the trading center operations.
“I think what is bringing our market down is the security issue, we are planning to have a combination of the police UPDF and the local community, because we are going to have some security members selected from business operators like boda bodas, car washers and the other people and the other issue is about the sanitation of the place, some of the areas are not well planned and garbage collection is a problem, we shall try to ask the division to provide for us tipas.”
The female councilor representing Pokea ward to Ayivu division Hellen Gasi, expresses excitement after postponing the committee elections for three times.
“We did it because it has been postponed three times so this time we made sure that we did it because we know Ediofe trading center is a big trading center where Ayivu division also gets local revenue, am very grateful that the trading center committee has been elected, they are going to help us a lot, they will also help our committee of revenue in our division in whatever will happen in the trading center.”
This election came after the repeated outcry from the community over poor waste management and insecurity in the ediofe trading center which has been mainly attributed to the lack of market committee.
