NUMBER OF SOUTH SUDANESE REFUGEES SOARS AS VIOLENCE INTENSIFIES IN JUBA

Authorities of Obongi district local government have expressed fears over the daily increase of influx of refugees in the district from the neighboring country south Sudan following the rising tensions that of recent is escalating and called for immediate humanitarian response.
 
Mr. Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza the RDC obongi says the situation is alarming.

“Because of the insecurity and instability in south Sudan, we are now receiving refugees on daily basis the number has greatly increased. I want to appeal to OPM, UNHCR and other partners that have started withdrawing, there is no withdrawal because the refugee have continued to come if you withdraw it means there is going to be crises.” Mr. Mpimbaza said.
 
Over 90 percent of the refugees in Palorinya settlement are south Sudanese from different parts of the country.
 
Mr. Jonathan Matata the assistant settlement commandant for Palorinya reports that many partners have been constrained with resources but appealed for better usage of the available resources.
 
“As a district, government and also the humanitarian agents it’s time for us to revenge the wheel and ensure that we have interventions, or we have programs that can be able to support our communities with the little resources or miggar resources that we have.” Mr. Matata said.
 
Hon. Boka Didi George obongi district MP clarified that government is in control of the situations on ground however he says security starts with each individual.
 
“Security should start from our homes and that’s why Uganda is deploying to DRC to secure DRC as part of east African community, that’s why Uganda is deploying to south Sudan to secure south Sudan as a strategic neighbor to us.” Hon. Boka clarified. 
 
UNHCR reports of 2025 indicates that Uganda currently host over 1.8 million refugees and asylum seekers in the country.
