Aniku Emmanuel of Obongi District is reaping significant benefits from the Parish Development Model (PDM) program after investing in a mobile money business and a veterinary drug shop. Initially, Mr. Aniku had planned to use the PDM funds for poultry rearing but later decided to venture into mobile money services and veterinary supplies.
Aniku, a resident of Luru Village, Morobi Parish in Itula Sub-county, said after receiving UGX 1 million from PDM under Morobi SCCOCA, he invested in the mobile money business and veterinary drug shop. From mobile money services alone, he earns a monthly commission of between UGX 500,000 and 600,000.
“The PDM money helped me as it added to my capital. After selling my drugs or offering my services, the money I get from those sales is reinvested into the mobile money business. I help people carry out transactions—meaning I do two things in one,” Emmanuel explained.
He added that on a good day, he can make up to UGX 150,000 from the drug shop.
Asele Rasulu Daudi, Councilor for Morobi Parish in Itula Sub-county, said he has received positive feedback about the PDM program.
“When the government introduced the PDM program, the funds were given to a good number of people, and I’ve witnessed a positive impact among community members,” Asele said.
He noted that only a few people have misused the money due to a lack of understanding of the program’s purpose.
“My advice to the community is that whatever little support the government gives should be used wisely to improve their lives,” he added.
According to Umhoza Habiba Furaha, the Assistant RDC of Obongi District, PDM has greatly improved the lives of the people—especially women.
“The government introduced this program to improve our lifestyle, the way we live, and how we conduct our activities in the community,” Habiba said.
She also urged beneficiaries to make good use of the money and not to misuse it out of excitement, reminding them that nothing comes for free in Uganda.
Samuel Hashaka Mpimaza, the RDC of Obongi District, expressed his joy at how the people of Obongi have embraced the PDM program. He emphasized that they will not tolerate anyone sabotaging government efforts.
