Police in Oyam district have re-arrested eight staff of Amaji Primary School over suspected theft of 14 computers that were stolen from unknown thugs.

Re-arresting these suspects including 2 watchmen and six teachers followed a directive from Patrick Ocen who is the Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Oyam during an emergency security meetings held at this school on January 03, 2025.

According to Ocen, rearresting these suspects who were recently released on police bond was aimed at protecting them from the aggrieved parents of this school who had intention of taking law into their hands.

Additionally he directed District Education Officer not to effect any transfer before the recovery of these computers.

Benson Dilla the LC5 chairperson of Oyam district said their prime suspects are teachers and the head teacher of Amaji primary school because these computers got lost when teachers were holding keys for library themselves.

Responding to the request made by parents for the transfer of these suspected teachers, David Adea the Acting district education officer of Oyam said they cannot transfer these teachers before their issues are handled well calling upon any concerned person to report the whereabouts of these computers.

Job Mutegeki the Oyam district Police commander equally confirmed that re-arresting these suspects was aimed at protecting them against any act of mob action.

Sam Paul Ogwang Alunyu, the Lc3 chairperson of Kamdini town council however put much of  his blames on the head teacher of Amaji Primary School Mr. Opito Richard saying his negligence of duty has led to the loss of these computers.

He highlighted that if not handled well the behavior of these few teachers can tarnish the name of all teachers.

Patrick Ogwang Obura,a parent of the school who is also the MP aspirant for Oyam South constituency said in order us to realize development, our children must study adding that installation of computers at this school to become a model explained why NRM government is putting more effort on sciences and technology

He further discouraged people from fighting against development calling upon these suspects who might have hidden these computers somewhere to bring them back.

According to a report, the 14 stolen computers were part of 20 computers donated by Sino Hydro Power cooperation company under cooperate social responsibility.
