POLICE DISCOVER ACTIVE GRENADE IN OLUKO, AYIVU EAST, ARUA CITY

Police in West Nile have recovered an explosive device in Oluko cell, Ambeko ward, Ayivu East.
 
SP Collins Asea, the regional police public relations officer for West Nile region said the item is a non-spent ordinance buried underground for years, exposed due to erosion.
 
According to Asea, preliminary investigations suggests that there was a retired army officer at the rank of major in the area who might have brought the explosive item in the area some years ago as further investigations will continue.

Asea says Police responded quickly and the called the police bomb squad from Kampala who are on their way to Arua to detonate the grenade.
 
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items promptly, to facilitate quick police response and ultimately saving lives.
 
“The grenade was discovered during the process of mixing motor for laying bricks and the grenade is still active and good enough it never exploded, we have informed our team of bomb experts from police headquarters in Kampala who are on their way to Arua to detonate the grenade,” he said.
 
According to the PRO, In the interest of public safety, inquiries were initiated and the scene was thoroughly processed and documented following the guidance from bomb experts as he urged the public to remain calm and wait for the bomb experts from the police headquarters to execute a controlled explosion without causing injuries and damages.
